Nutrition is a science based discipline and the profession expects degree level training. Undergraduate training is at least three years. There are also some Masters level courses for those who already have a science or medical degree.
If you have a personal interest in nutrition and are looking to update or extend your knowledge in the interests of your or your family’s health and wellbeing, again select the training with care and establish that the providers have appropriate qualifications and experience to deliver evidence-based courses in nutrition.
BNF has a series of low cost online courses in nutrition for people with a personal interest in nutrition. These have been developed by experienced, Registered Nutritionists. A certificate is provided when the course is successfully completed but the courses do NOT lead to Registration as a Nutritionist (which requires degree level training followed by on-the-job experience for several years).
